What We Need & What You Get

Here is a break down of costs

I will be creating this RepRap from scrap. Much of the framing and parts for this printer are able to be printed using another RepRap Machine but because this is my first RepRap I am having to make this one from things that I find and buy from the store. I have thus far completed the triangular basic framing from stuff I have at my house.
The other parts that are more pricey that I don't have setting around the house are the mother board, switches and motors. The great thing about the RepRap is the software is free and open source so the main costs will be hardware based. So here is the cost break down. Some things may vary in pricing thus I have factored that in.

3 Opto Endstop v2.1 Kit 60$
1 GEN6 Deluxe electronics incl optos 200$
5 2.8 V 1.68A 4.4 kg-cm RepRap Stepper Motor 100$

1 Hotend v9 all-in kit 1.75mm 90$

x miscellaneous parts and printing plastic 250$

Total 700$

So this is my Project, and I hope you take interest in it weather you contribute money or not when I complete this project I would love to hear your ideas and thoughts. Hope I can print you a 3D RepRap printer.

Thank you for your contributions and your interest in my project

Sincerely your friend Charlie ; )

The Impact

The impact that I hope to see with the creation of the RepRap Machine is; I hope to open the door for myself and other mechanically and sculpturally inclined people to allow them to connect the digital world to the real world . Developing ideas on CAD based programs to be interpolated into the real world with this machine. This allows for lots of opportunistic for both myself and others. One project that I am excited to start work on once I have completed the RepRap Machine is, I hope to create elaborate clocks that show the mechanical gears that make them run. My long term plan is to set up a a web site that will allow everyday people to submit CAD based projects that can be printed by the RepRap. These creations would then be sent to the creators once the cost of creating and shipping are taken into account. I'm also hoping to add a 24-7 web cam on the RepRap so you can watch and record progress on your creation. The over all impact of the creation of this machine I hope will be as a tool to allow myself and others to expound on their creativity.

My Story

Hi my name is Charlie and I want to unleash my creativity into the realm of robotics. I am currently running through the creative process to create a RepRap Machine. You may be asking what exactly is a Rep Rap Machine? Here is a brief explanation "its a printer!". Not just any type of printer this printer prints in 3D!

Using an X,Y,& Z coordinate system that will work in conjunction with computer aided design software. RepRap Machines are incredibly versatile they have the capability of actually duplicating themselves once you have one you can print out the parts to make another and the sculptural and mechanical implications are boundless. I am wanting to create one so that I might be able to visit other realms of mechanical and robotic creativity at a faster pace, also I would like to open my RepRap Machine up to the public so that if you have an idea for something sculptural or mechanical you can be creative as well.
